NASA Astronaut Karen Nyberg Shows Us How One Washes Their Hair in Space

Karen Nyberg is a 43-year-old mechanical engineer. As a part of her work for NASA, she took part in Expedition 36, the 36th long-duration mission to the International Space Station, an artificial satellite in low-Earth orbit used to conduct scientific experiments in space. Expedition 36 began on May 13th and ended on September 10th, when Expedition 37 took over. Nyberg was the 50th woman in space. (In addition to having lived in space, she spent seven days living in the Aquarius underwater lab because she has the coolest fucking life ever.)

Nyberg does lots of really cool shit that I don't want to diminish in any way (she's a NASA engineer, for fuck's sake!). Sadly, none of it is relevant to this blog. What is on-topic, though, is this absolutely fascinating video she made in July showing how she washes her hair in space:

  5. is it wrong that the first thing I though of was how much awesome volume she must be able to get in her hair by letting it dry with no gravity?

  6. Amazing! I have a hard time believing it actually felt squeaky clean at the end there though. I think it must be relative.
